Nutritional Medicine & Therapy

nutritional therapist meal Everyone has some understanding of what nutrition means, but the Nutritional Medicine that I practise is unique in combining western biomedical science with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to create balance and well-being by using a flexible approach to how and what we eat and drink. For example, vitamin, mineral and general nutritional constituents are a viewpoint from a western perspective, while from a TCM stance, foods are selected on the basis of what would be most beneficial for your individual needs, adapted by climate, season and symptoms. Laboratory testing, supplements and foods which have an emphasis on reducing the body’s stress may also be suggested to help you to restore your wellbeing.

Good nutrition underpins every aspect of our health and wellbeing

As food is the primary need of all of us, the study of nutrition has existed – consciously or not – as long as we humans have. However, food finally became recognised in the western world in the late 20th century as an important healing force for prevention and treating disease. Two-thirds of all deaths are influenced by the wrong diet and poor dietary choices play a large part in today’s common killer diseases – strokes, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Good nutrition underpins every aspect of our health and wellbeing, but is particularly important in the following instances: Skin care (eg anti-ageing, skin eruptions), Eye health (eg conjunctivitis, cataracts, glaucoma), Ear problems (eg infections), Oral health, Digestive disorders (eg IBS/IBD, heartburn, gallstones), Obesity, Cardiovascular disease, Diabetes, Hypoglycaemia, Musculoskeletal disorders (eg Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoporosis), Sinus problems, Asthma, Insomnia, Migraine, Nervous System Disorders (eg MS, memory, concentration), Anxiety, Depression, Women’s Health (eg PMS, menopause), Urinary Tract disorders (eg Prostate, Kidney stones, Cystitis), Stress, Fatigue/Exhaustion, Fertility issues, Heavy Metal Toxicity, Exercise and Sport.

First appointments last 1.5 hours and follow-up consultations last for 45 minutes.
